Ian Friedman was Co-Head of the venture capital & growth equity team within Goldman Sachs Investment Partners (GSIP). In this role, Ian focused on making investments from Series B to Pre-IPO in consumer technology and enterprise software businesses, with a heavy focus on eCommerce, marketplaces, online networks, digital media, SaaS, APIs and fintech. Ian led or co-led investments in companies such as Spotify (IPO), Plaid, Foodpanda/DeliveryHero (IPO), Shift (acq. By INSU), Omio (fka GoEuro), thredUP, Zola, Rothy’s, Cadre, ResearchGate, Hubba, Hush and CompareAsia, among others. Ian has also personally invested in early-stage technology companies such as Ethoca (acq. by Mastercard) and Jumprope. Ian previously led technology investments at Goldman Sachs’ long-short equity hedge fund where he was a Vice President.
Before joining Goldman Sachs in 2012, Ian held roles as an investor in technology companies at Bain Capital and a management consultant to technology companies at the Boston Consulting Group. Ian has an MBA from Stanford where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar and an HBA from Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University where he was the Gold Medal recipient.
